Also Serving Patients in San Jose and the Bay Area
CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved, non-invasive fat reduction system quickly growing more popular among patients seeking cosmetic enhancement. It is ideal for individuals with bulges of unwanted fat who want a slimmer, fitter-looking physique. Bay area plastic surgeon Dr. Hessler is committed to offering the most advanced non-invasive fat reduction solutions to her patients, and she is pleased to add CoolSculpting to her repertoire.
How Does CoolSculpting Work?
Developed by Harvard scientists, CoolSculpting technology is designed to freeze and kill fat cells by exposing them to extreme cold. The treated fat cells crystallize and break down, and the body eliminates them naturally.
On average, CoolSculpting can reduce 22 percent of the fat layer, and treatments can be repeated as needed. Treatment does not require incisions, suction or needles, and does not leave any scarring.
What Happens During CoolSculpting Treatment?
CoolSculpting can be used to treat the abdomen, the waist (including “love handles”) and the back.
Dr. Hessler will place the CoolSculpting device on the targeted area. Using the handpiece, she draws up a bulge of the excess fat between two cooling panels. This causes a pulling sensation and minor pressure, but no pain. The cooling panels freeze the fat cells, causing them to self-destruct. Dr. Hessler carefully repeats these actions throughout the treatment area until she is satisfied.
Treatment typically takes between one and three hours. Dr. Hessler’s patients are often pleased at how non-invasive treatment is; many of them use the time to rest, check their email or enjoy a book.
There is very minimal downtime after CoolSculpting treatment; patients are normally able to return to their everyday activities almost immediately after treatment. In some cases, CoolSculpting causes minor side effects such as temporary redness, bruising, tingling or numbness.
It may take a few months to see the results of treatment, as the body naturally eliminates the fat cells. Dr. Hessler will recommend additional treatments if she believes they would be helpful, although some patients are satisfied with their results after only one treatment.
