The implants are small and made of a flexible, biocompatible material that is able to be shaped around the actual bone of your chin. In chin augmentation surgery, the implant will be placed on top of your natural chin bone to build up and enhance the area. the procedure is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation and takes about one hour. (Unless other procedures are being done in combination.)
Dr. Hessler will carefully make an incision either inside your mouth or under your chin so that the chin implant can be inserted. She will then insert the implant and gently fit it around your natural chin bone. The incisions will then be closed.
Most patients are able to return to work or school within a week after their chin augmentation surgery. Any discomfort can be managed with recommended or prescribed medication from Dr. Hessler. During recovery, you will need to sleep face up with your head elevated for at least one week. This will help with swelling, and will also protect your incision. You will be able to lift heavy objects and exercise again within 4 to 6 weeks after surgery.
