As we age, the eyes often show the first signs of aging. This can create a tired appearance to the overall face. Dr. Jill Hessler provides brow lift surgery (also referred to a forehead lift) to rejuvenate this area and restore youthfulness.

How the brow ages

There are two reasons the upper eyes can look tired. Either the brow has dropped as a result of last of the supports and elastin and collagen in the forehead skin, or there can be excessive eyelid skin or hooding of the upper eyelid. In a female, the brow should be approximately one centimeter above the orbital rim with the highest portion of the brow approximately two thirds of the way across the brow starting at the center. The male the brow should be located at the level of the bone of the orbital rim without much lateral arch.

Eyelid surgery or brow lift?

During your consultation with Dr. Hessler, she will evaluate you to determine what factors are contributing to your areas of concern. If the tired appearance of the eyes is caused by extra eyelid skin but the eyebrow is in its proper place, than eyelid surgery is the best treatment.

If the brow has descended significantly, then brow lift surgery will help provide a more natural position of the brow, as well as a more youthful appearance.

Dr. Hessler will also examine the placement of your eyebrows. If lifting your eyebrows will not remove all of the redundant skin, then performing forehead lift in conjunction with eyelid surgery will be the best treatment for you.

Different types of brow lifts

Regarding a brow lift, the most important factor to consider is the location of your hairline. An endoscopic forehead lift will elevate the hairline slightly as will the coronal brow lift. For someone with a long forehead or high hairline, a pretrichial approach is best. Dr. Hessler also treats fine lines and forehead wrinkles with cosmetic injectables including Xeomin®, Dysport®, and Botox®.

Candidates for a brow lift in Palo Alto

Bay area patients who are showing the common signs of aging can be an ideal candidate for a brow lift procedure. As we age, the skin around our upper facial region loses its elasticity, which results in a gloomy or droopy look near the forehead.

Patients both young and old who are starting to see even the most moderate amount of change in facial appearance can benefit from this procedure. Patients can find out if a brow lift is the most suitable option during their consultation with Dr. Hessler.

How long will the results last?

Brow lift results are a long term solution for a youthful facial appearance. Typically it’s a one-time operation when done correctly. But keep in mind that your bodies will continue to age naturally.

It’s recommended to undergo proper skin maintenance and practice proper facial hygiene to maintain optimal results in the long run. Patients also have the option to include other facial rejuvenation procedures that can complement the results of a brow lift over time.

Dr. Hessler is a true artist, with a natural eye for aesthetics. She did a brow lift for me with a beveled cut so that my hair line would not be raised, and today a year later, my scar is imperceptible. It was actually never EVER noticeable throughout the recovery as well. But now hair has grown through the cut line, which is genius!
